Nationwide Arena began to host events upon opening in Columbus, OH in 2000. Since day one the multi-purpose indoor arena has stole the hearts of sports fans from all over. There are three professional sports franchises that play at Nationwide Arena. They are the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, the AFL's Columbus Destroyers, and the USHL's Ohio Junior Blue Jackets.
Newer venues mean more seats; and this definitely holds true with Nationwide Arena. For hockey games, which are the most popular events, the capacity is 18,000. The arena football capacity is approximately 1,000 seats less, and the basketball capacity is about 1,000 seats more. This flexibility is another huge benefit of venues that were constructed within the last 10 years.
Although Nationwide Arena hosts more hockey games than any other events, this does not mean that the venue is one dimensional. Several professional wrestling events have taken place at this arena, and the 2007 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is scheduled to make a stop in Columbus as well. And this does not even take into consideration all of the concerts that have played out at the Nationwide Arena. These concerts include some of the biggest acts in the entertainment world.
